News

For the second consecutive year, the University of Western Macedonia is participating in the summer hosting programme for students of the Greek diaspora, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the innovative project titled “Playing and Communicating in the Greek Language”.

The programme is implemented by the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy with the participation of expatriate students from all over the world. Through their involvement in creative and experiential activities, participants have the opportunity to practice the Greek language and become familiar with the Greek culture.

The scientific coordinator of the programme is Professor Eleni Griva, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Global Engagement and Student Affairs. The design and coordination of the activities are carried out by an academic team consisting of faculty members and researchers from the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, with the support of final-year and postgraduate students of the university.

The programme takes place at the children’s campsites of the Municipality of Athens in Agios Andreas, where participants engage with the Greek language through interactive tools, digital and educational games, cultural digital tours, traditional dances and songs, and original creative activities.

In addition, the students take part in visits to sites of historical and cultural interest, such as the Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum, Ancient Olympia and other important landmarks of Greek heritage.

Through this initiative, the University of Western Macedonia strengthens the connection between the academic community and society, as well as with the Greek diaspora, promoting the Greek language, the cultural identity and the active engagement of youth in outreach activities.
