Theodoros Theodoulidis
Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering

Theodoros Theodoulidis is a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Western Macedonia. He holds a PhD degree (1997) and a Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1992). He was appointed Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, TEI of Western Macedonia, in 2004 and Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Western Macedonia in 2007. Since 2013, he has been a Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Magnetic and Electric Analysis of Non-Destructive Evaluation (MEANDER), Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Western Macedonia.

He was Head of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering, Deputy Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dean of the School of Engineering from 2016 to 2019.

His research work is focused on the theoretical and experimental study of electromagnetic fields, mainly in eddy current Non-Destructive Testing applications and has been author of a number of articles in prestigious international scientific journals. By November 2022, his research citations in Scopus (excluding the self ones) were over 1,500 (h-index 24), whereas in Google Scholar the number of cited references was over 2,700 (h-index 32). In 2017, he was awarded the AEM International Award for his contribution to the analysis of electromagnetic fields.

He has been a visiting researcher at international universities / laboratories: Iowa State University USA, Michigan State University USA, CEA Saclay FRANCE, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics CHINA.

He is a member of international scientific committees, has supervised 2 doctoral theses and co-supervised 3. He has also been a peer-reviewer of many international scientific journals and contributed to 17 research projects, in 5 of which he was a scientific coordinator. He has also conducted many eddy current inspections in the Greek power and petrochemical industry (certified inspector).
He served his military service as an OF(D) (Military Engineer). He is a chess master.

Vice-rector for Academic Affairs & Quality Assurance
Nikolaos Sariannidis

Professor at the Department of Accounting and Finance, School of Economic Sciences 

Nikolaos Sariannidis is a Professor at the Department of Accounting and Finance, University of Western Macedonia, (subject area “Quantitative Methods in Accounting and Finance”). He graduated the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, University of Piraeus (1994), and holds an MSc degree in Investment Analysis, University of Stirling (U.K., 1998). In 2007, he was awarded a PhD degree by the Department of International Economic Relations and Development, Democritus University of Thrace, for his PhD Thesis entitled “Analysis and Evaluation of ATHEX Financial Derivatives: The Factor of Volatility”.

He was Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance (2013-2017), and vice-rector for Financial Planning and Development, TEI of Western Macedonia (2018-2019).

His scientific and research work is mainly focused on applications of econometric methods to capital markets and economic development. He has published more than 60 original articles in internationally acclaimed scientific journals and conference proceedings, thirty-eight (38) of which are indexed in the SCOPUS bibliographic database.

Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation
Stergios Maropoulos
Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering

Stergios Maropoulos is a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and vice-rector for Research and Lifelong Learning, University of Western Macedonia. He holds a BSc in Μetallurgy, University of Manchester/UMIST. He was also awarded a Master’s Degree (MSc) and a Doctorate (Ph.D) in Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of Alloy Steels, University of Manchester/UMIST. He was vice-rector for Research and Lifelong Learning, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design, TEI of Western Macedonia, and Director of Advanced Industrial Production of the Technological Research Centre of Western Macedonia.

He is Member of the Regional Research and Innovation Council, and of the Special Development Programme Monitoring Committee (EAP), Region of Western Macedonia. In addition, he is President of the Research Centre of UOWM, Director of the Laboratory of Mechanical Processes and Quality Control, of the Centre for Testing of Materials and Constructions (CTMC), and of the Postgraduate programme (MSc) “Welding Engineering and Non- Destructive Inspection”.

His research is focused on the engineering properties of metallic materials and structures. He has published a number of research papers in international scientific journals and conference proceedings and has been awarded the Vanadium Award of the Institute of Materials, British Ministry of Defence, for his research in high-strength low-alloy steel. He has also carried out research in identifying causes of accidents due to fracture of metal tools and machinery in British industries.

In addition, he has contributed to a number of national and European programmes and worked as a production and quality control manager in the metal manufacturing industry.

Vice-rector for Administrative Affairs and Holistic Welfare
Anna Spyrtou
Professor at the Department of Primary Education, School of Humanities and Social Sciences 

Anna Spyrtou is a Professor at the Department of Primary Education, University of Western Macedonia. She graduated the Department of Physics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1990 and was awarded a PhD in Science Education, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2002. She was appointed Lecturer in the Department of Primary Education, University of Western Macedonia in 2004 and Professor in 2019.

She was Director of the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate programme “Educational Sciences: Science, Environment, and Technology in Education” (2014-2019). She is member of the executive committee of the Postgraduate Programme “Education and ICT”, Department of Primary School, University of Western Macedonia (2015-2019).

She is member of the Regional Board for the Assessment of Educational Project Coordinators and Heads of the Educational & Counselling Centres, Directorate of Primary & Secondary Education, Region of Western Macedonia (2018-2020).

She is also Chair of the Scientific Association for Science and Technology Education.

She has contributed to 5 research programmes and collaborated with the University of Helsinki (Department of Teacher Education).

Her research is focused on: (a) Teaching-Learning Sequences, (b) Pedagogical Content Knowledge in Science, (c) Course Material Design for Science, and (d) Nanotechnology in Compulsory Education.

She is Member of Greek and international scientific committees and reviewer in international and Greek scientific journals. She has won two awards for her educational films “The Journey of Electricity” and “Florinano”.

She is editor of the book: Exploring the Secrets of Nanocosm. Athens: Gutenberg Publications (2018).

Vice Rector for International Relations, Global engagement and Lifelong Learning
Eleni Griva
Professor at the Department of Primary Education, School of Humanities and Social Sciences

Eleni Griva  is a Professor of Applied Linguistics, Βilingualism and Teaching Greek as a second/foreign language at the Department of Primary Education,  University of Western Macedonia (UOWM).

She is Director of the Institute of Greek Language, Center of Research and Innovation TEMENUS of the UOWM, and deputy Director of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program in Teaching Greek Language, UOWM. She was Director of the Postgraduate Program “Education Studies and Inf. Technologies”, UOWM, and she was Coordinator of the postgraduate module “Testing and Assessment in Language Learning in the School of Humanities, Hellenic Open University.

Since 2020, she has been Member of the Scientific Committee for Greek Citizenship of the Ministry of Interior, Secretary General for Citizenship, and  Head of the Scientific Supervisory Board of the Experimental School in Florina. She is also Member of the Regional Council for the selection and placement  of Primary School Advisors in  Northern Greece.

She has been coordinator of research, educational and training programs for teachers of Greek as a Second/Foreign Language or as a Heritage Language in cooperation with Departments/institutes of Greek Language Abroad and Education Coordinators of Greek Consulates Abroad. She has organised or co-organised many scientific conferences on topics related to Language Education.

She has published more than 280 publications  (10 books,  collected editions,  peer-reviewed articles in Greek and International Journals, book chapters) in the fields: language teaching in multicultural educational environments, teaching Greek as a second/foreign language, bilingualism/multilingualism, intercultural communication, assessment in language learning. She has participated in many conferences in Greece and abroad and she is a member of national and international scientific committees.
