The University of Western Macedonia continues to steadily strengthen its international presence by hosting an increasing number of students from abroad in recent years, both through Erasmus+ mobility and through its new English-taught undergraduate programmes. Everyday life and the overall living experience in Western Macedonia constitute key topics of dialogue with the international student community.
In this context, meetings were held between the Rector of the University of Western Macedonia, Professor Theodoros Theodoulidis, and international students from Spain and Portugal participating in the Erasmus+ programme, as well as students enrolled in the University’s English-taught undergraduate programmes “Economics and Sustainable Development” and “Creative Writing”.
During the discussions, students shared their experiences of studying and living in the region, highlighting various aspects of student life in Western Macedonia. The Erasmus students noted that the daily support and strong sense of hospitality offered by both the University and the city were key factors that helped them quickly feel part of the academic community.
Elizabeth Precious Nambuya, an undergraduate student in the English-taught programme “Economics and Sustainable Development”, stated:
“My visit to the ZEP University Campus and my meeting with the Rector were a very meaningful experience for me. As an international student enrolled in one of the first English-taught undergraduate programmes at a public university in Greece, I feel that I am part of something new. I particularly appreciated the open discussion and the genuine interest shown in my experience as a student. Meetings like these make international students feel heard and supported and they strengthen our sense of belonging to the university community.”
The Rector thanked the students for their participation and insights, emphasizing that the active presence of the international student community contributes to the development of an open and outward-looking academic environment at the University of Western Macedonia.
