Theodoros Theodoulidis
Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering

Theodoros Theodoulidis is a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Western Macedonia. He holds a PhD degree (1997) and a Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1992). He was appointed Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, TEI of Western Macedonia, in 2004 and Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Western Macedonia in 2007. Since 2013, he has been a Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Magnetic and Electric Analysis of Non-Destructive Evaluation (MEANDER), Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Western Macedonia.

He was Head of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering, Deputy Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dean of the School of Engineering from 2016 to 2019.

His research work is focused on the theoretical and experimental study of electromagnetic fields, mainly in eddy current Non-Destructive Testing applications and has been author of a number of articles in prestigious international scientific journals. By November 2022, his research citations in Scopus (excluding the self ones) were over 1,500 (h-index 24), whereas in Google Scholar the number of cited references was over 2,700 (h-index 32). In 2017, he was awarded the AEM International Award for his contribution to the analysis of electromagnetic fields.

He has been a visiting researcher at international universities / laboratories: Iowa State University USA, Michigan State University USA, CEA Saclay FRANCE, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics CHINA.

He is a member of international scientific committees, has supervised 2 doctoral theses and co-supervised 3. He has also been a peer-reviewer of many international scientific journals and contributed to 17 research projects, in 5 of which he was a scientific coordinator. He has also conducted many eddy current inspections in the Greek power and petrochemical industry (certified inspector).
He served his military service as an OF(D) (Military Engineer). He is a chess master.

Eleni Griva
Professor at the Department of Primary Education, School of Humanities and Social Sciences

Eleni Griva is a Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (Department of Primary Education) at the University of Western Macedonia (UOWM) – Greece. She is the Director of the Interdepartmental Master Program “Teaching Greek in Intercultural Environments”.

She has been the Chair of the Center for Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning since October 2023 and the Director of the Institute of Greek Language of the Research Center “TEMENUS” (UOWM), for the last five years. She is a Member of the Regional Council (of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports) for the Selection of Primary Education School Advisors in Northern Greece, and the Chair of the Supervisory Council of Florina Experimental School. She has also served for three years as a member of the Scientific Committee at the General Secretariat for Citizenship of the Ministry of the Interior.

She has coordinated research, educational and training programs for teachers of Greek as a Second/Foreign Language or as a Heritage Language in cooperation with Departments/institutes of Greek Language Abroad and Education Coordinators of Greek Consulates Abroad. She has also organised or co-organised many scientific conferences on topics related to Language Education.

She has published 10 books and more than 280 publications, which appear in various international and national refereed journals, collected editions and conference proceedings, in the fields: Teaching Greek as a Second/foreign language , Intercultural Communication, bilingualism/multilingualism, Digital Literacy, Alternative Assessment in language learning. She has participated in many conferences in Greece and abroad and she is a member of national and international scientific committees.

Malamati (Tenia) Louta
Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering

Dr.-Ing. Malamati D. Louta (b. Kozani, 1975) received the M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1997 and 2000, respectively, and the M.B.A. degree in 2004 from the National Technical University of Athens. She is Professor and Director of Telecommunication Networks and Advanced Services Laboratory of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, School of Engineering, University of Western Macedonia, Greece. Vice Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, School of Engineering, University of Western Macedonia, Greece (2016-2020) and member of the research committee of University of Western Macedonia (2017-2020).

She was a researcher at the Telecommunications Laboratory, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (1997-1999). Senior Engineer – member of the staff of Public Power Corporation (1999-2005), being head of the Information Systems Security subsector (2004-2005). Assistant Professor at the Department of Business Administration, Technological Educational Institute of Western Macedonia (2005-2008), and Lecturer with the Department of Informatics and Telematics, Harokopio University of Athens (2008-2010). Since 2010, as Assistant Professor (2010-2014) and Associate Professor (2014-onward), she is with the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering, University of Western Macedonia (renamed to Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2019). Her research interests include telecommunication networks and advanced services engineering. She is the author of over 140 peer-reviewed publications in the above areas. She serves as a member of the editorial board in a number of international journals, general chair, technical program committee chair and member, session organizer and a reviewer for a number of international conferences and journals. She serves as a series editor of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science for Communications Series of IEEE Communications Magazine (2020-onwards). She has contributed to several national and international research and development programs as a researcher, task leader, workpackage leader, principal investigator and coordinator. She is a Senior Member of IEEE since 2014, member of the ACM and the Technical Chamber of Greece.

Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation
Georgios Christoforidis
Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering

Dr. Georgios Christoforidis is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Western Macedonia (UoWM). He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the ECE Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) (1998), a Master’s degree in Power Electronics & Drives (with distinction) from the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the University of Birmingham, UK (1999), and a PhD from the ECE Department of AUTH (2004). His doctoral research was supported by scholarships from General Secretariat Research Technology and Public Power Corporation. From 2010 to 2019, he served as Assistant and Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Technological Educational Institute of Western Macedonia, and in 2019 he joined the ECE Department at UoWM.

His research interests include Electric Power Systems, applications of Artificial Intelligence in power systems, distributed generation, smart grids, energy storage systems, electromagnetic compatibility, among others. He has participated as a researcher or project leader in over 25 international/national projects in the field of Electric Power Systems. He has published 57 papers in international scientific journals, 115 conference papers with peer review, and 2 book chapters, with >2,500 citations (Google Scholar) and >1,800 (Scopus) as of September 2025.

He is a member of Technical Chamber of Greece, CIGRE, IEEE (senior member), ETIP SNET WG3, EERA JP in Energy Storage, and other international organizations. He served as Chair of the ECE Department at UoWM between 2020-2025, as Chair/Vice Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering at TEIWM (2013–2019), and member of the Coordinating Committee of the Institute for Energy Development and Post-Lignite Era Transition of UoWM.
