An informational meeting was held in Aegina, co-organized by the Municipality of Aegina, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection and the Institute of Civil Protection of the University of Western Macedonia.
The meeting featured a presentation of the co-funded European programme THEMIS, which seeks to develop a strategic framework for enhancing public awareness in the field of civil protection through targeted information campaigns and educational initiatives, with particular emphasis on the tourism sector.
The discussion focused on issues related to tourism, vulnerable social groups, cultural heritage sites and protected areas, highlighting the need for coordinated preparedness and effective risk management in response to natural disasters.
The active participation of all relevant entities was particularly significant—including the Fire Service, Coast Guard, Police, Forest Service, rescue teams, volunteers, tourism professionals, hunting associations, amateur radio operators and municipal officials—contributing to the development of practical and implementable civil protection actions for the island.
The Institute of Civil Protection of the University of Western Macedonia, headed by Professor Ioannis Bakouros and supported by Amalia Kouskoura and Eleni Kalliontzi, extends its thanks to all participants and representatives of local bodies, with special acknowledgment to the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Olga Petriti and Special Advisor Nektaria Sarantou.
Following the analysis of the conclusions, a comprehensive and holistic action plan will be developed to further strengthen civil protection on the island.
