The kick-off meeting of the partners of the project “AquaResilient MEDiterannea: Promoting Flood Resilience (ARMED)” took place, a project coordinated by the University of Western Macedonia, with Professor Malamati Louta, Vice-Rector for Administrative and Financial Affairs, serving as the scientific coordinator.
The ARMED project aims to strengthen resilience against flood events, which are becoming more severe due to climate change. Through the development of an Intelligent Information System, the project will enhance flood prevention, preparedness, and response by utilizing data such as hydrological, meteorological, topographical and socio-economic information, along with inputs from sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.
As part of the project, a Unified Knowledge Base will be created to support the formulation of improved risk management practices and policies. Additionally, machine learning techniques will be employed to propose appropriate measures and actions aimed at mitigating the impacts of extreme weather events.
The project partners include ENVIROPLAN S.A., the University of Thessaly and B&F Consulting. The total budget amounts to €1.799.999,99 and is funded by the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Fund.
