The University as an institution establishes, maintains and reforms a cultural heritage of knowledge, ideas and values. Throughout its course, this heritage is enriched based on continuous research. As for the society, it constitutes both a critical conscience and a significant asset. The University is reformed and also it reforms the society in the course of its evolution.
The University, by nature, is founded at the crossroads of research, education and innovation and it constitutes a pivot for the society and the economy of knowledge.
Obviously, our society has a need of a healthy and competitive university so that it can develop its economy, its viable growth and the social cohesion.
The activities of a regional University penetrate the economic, social and cultural events of the region in which it operates. This fact is a tool of growth and especially a factor of
diffusion of an environment of optimism and comprehension of the world's complexity.
The development of structures for the exploitation of research products, the diffusion of culture of new technologies and innovation, the creation of centres of certification of local products, the promotion of the region's assets, the diffusion of ecological conscience, the elevation and the respect of the cultural wealth, reflect the activity of the University of Western Macedonia, a region with long history, many capabilities, remarkable human potential and guardian of the diachronic values of our culture.
It should be mentioned that, its active participation in the daily activities of the region of Western Macedonia should not outshine its international prospect and orientation for distinction in education and research. Its increasing prestige internationally will contribute more effectively in the promotion of its fundamental role in the growth of Western Macedonia.
The first Administrative Committee of the University of Western Macedonia realizes the responsibility and the challenge for the creation of an "attractive" academic environment that will be based on: the values of institution, the diachronic values of our culture, the requirements of society, the new reality and the vision for a society of quality.
